Well, the colourful V Fest countdown has just so kindly informed me it is only 2 days, 10 hours, 35 minutes and 8 seconds until tickets to the ‘weekend of awesomeness’ go on sale and to top it off… THE LINE UP HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED.
At a glance the festival has some huge acts: Kings of Leon, The Vaccines and Two Door Cinema Club! Then you dig a little deeper and under the surface comes the realisation that the two day festival is just as mix-matched as my cereal cupboard; with a mixture of Bran Flakes (the ones no one like), Porridge (the ones everyone should like because they’re good for you) and Coco Pops (the ones that only get eaten because they’re tasty and popular).
So lets get the negatives out of the way. Wikipedia (the most reliable of all sources) claims V Fest is ‘predominately a rock festival’; I’m sorry Wikipedia but that is where you’re wrong. Yeah, Kings of Leon are headlining (again) but that’s about as rock as you’re going to get. It seems that over the years the mixed-genre festival has also become a home for pop acts (and their ‘hip’ fans), especially with sassy Beyonce sharing the headline spot joined by other chart-hogging artists such as Jessie J, Emeli Sande and Little Mix.
However, despite these choicest cuts, I’m excited to see some new music grace the V Fest stage in the form of 2013’s ‘one to watch’ Laura Mvula, English singer/songwriter Gabrielle Aplin and six piece indie/folk/pop band Of Monsters and Men who have all delivered highly anticipated, talked about new music already this year.
